what is this?This is called Hanfu, the traditional costume of the Han nationality.When you walk on the streets of China, you may occasionally see some girls wearing such clothes. Have you ever been curious about them? Let`s get closer to this unique costume today.

汉服有着几千年的历史，发展出了非常多样的形制和风格，对周边国家、民族的服饰也有很大的影响。
Hanfu has thousands of years’ history, and has developed a very diverse forms and styles, which has a great influence on the clothing of neighboring countries and nations.

韩  服
韩服总体呈“金字塔”形，上衣很短，裙子很长且蓬，并且上衣在裙子外部，前面有弧形下摆和一个很宽的系带（蝴蝶结）。
The overall shape of Hanbok is like "pyramid". The top is short, the skirt is very long and puffed out by a bustle; and the top is on the outside of the skirt, with a curved hem on the front and a wide tie (bow).

和服：整体呈T形，直线线条，下摆垂至脚踝，交领，袖子呈方形，上下包裹得很严实，腰带很宽，腰间绑有“小枕头”（实则为“带子”）。
Kimonos are T-shaped, straight-lined robes worn so that the hem falls to the ankle, with attached collars and long, wide sleeves. Kimonos are wrapped around the body, and secured by a sash called an obi, which is tied at the back.

汉服的种类很多，共同特点是比较宽松，衣裙自然下垂，线条流畅。那么到底汉服有多少种，它们是怎样发展的，又为什么有这么多不同？让我们一起走近汉服。汉服有多种款式，但主要分为四种形制。
There are many types of Hanfu. The common feature is that they are relatively loose, the dresses are naturally drooping, and the lines are smooth.So how many kinds of Hanfu are there? How did they develop? Why are they so different? Let`s get closer to them.Hanfu has a variety of styles with 4 main patterns.
首先，我们来看一下深衣，它们上下相连，不分衣裙。经常作为汉服中的礼服。
First of all, let's take a look at the "Shenyi", which the top and bottom are sewn together into a whole piece. They are usually used as the formal wear in Hanfu.

作为礼服，深衣的设计庄重而内涵丰富。圆袖方领，象征天圆地方；后背垂直的中缝，象征做人要正直。礼服上的花纹取自自然事物，有各自的象征意义；都根据女子身份的不同，所穿礼服的花纹和颜色都有严格的规定。这种深衣，从秦汉时期开始就一直延续下来，几千年来都没有太大的变化。
As a full dress, which people wear on Chinese holiday or some important ceremonies, the design of the Shenyi is rigorous and meaningful. The ancients believed that the sky was round and the earth was square, so the round sleeves and the square collar symbolized the sky and the earth. The vertical seam on the back symbolizes the integrity of the person. The patterns on the dresses are taken from natural things and have their own symbolic meanings. According to the different women's identities, the patterns and colors of the dresses are strictly regulated. This kind of Shenyi has continued since the Qin and Han Dynasties and has not changed much for thousands of years.
第二种，也是最常见的一种形制，分为上衣和下裙。被称为上衣下裳制，女子的也叫“襦裙”。
The second, and the most common pattern, is separated into a top and a bottom（dress） piece of clothing. These are called “Shangyi xiashang”, for female, also called “Ruqun”.

当领子呈“ y”形时，我们可以称它为交领襦裙；如果领子呈“ 11”形，我们可以称其为对襟襦裙。也可以按照裙子的高度对他们进行分类，当他们的腰带围在腰上时，它们被称为齐腰襦裙；当他们的腰带系在胸口上方时，它们被称为“齐胸襦裙”。其中，齐胸襦裙在唐代最为流行。
When its collar likes the letter”y”, we can call it Jiaolingruqun. If the collar likes the number “11”, we can call it Duijinruqun. They can also be classified by the height of the skirt, they are called Qiyaoruqun when their waistbands are on the waist; they are called Qixiongruqun when their waistbands are above the chest. Among them, the Qixiongruqun is the most popular in the Tang Dynasty.

第三种是上衣通裁制，上衣很长。
The third pattern is called “Shangyitongcai”, which the top is extended into a long shirt.

The forth pattern is “Yiku”, which is really convenient in daily life.

汉服在不同的朝代，有不同的特色。
Hanfu has different characteristics in different dynasties.
秦汉：庄重简朴
Qin, Han: dignified simplicity
魏晋南北朝：飘逸雅致
Wei, Jin, North and South Dynasties: elegant chic
隋唐：优雅华贵
Sui,Tang: both dignified and graceful
宋明：各式汉服共存
Song, Ming: different styles of Hanfu co-exsist

Cheongsam vs Han Costume
满族统治中国以后，汉服被禁止了三百多年，由满族服饰演变而来的旗袍一度成为了中国传统服饰的代表。
After the Manchu ruled China, Hanfu was banned for more than three hundred years. The cheongsam evolved from Manchu costumes once became the representative of traditional Chinese costumes.

关于旗袍和汉服哪个更能代表中国，一直有很多争论。一些人认为旗袍更为人熟知也更轻便，一些人认为汉服更能体现中国的文化底蕴。你觉得哪个更能代表中国？
Cheongsam and Hanfu, which is more representative of China? This question has raised a lot of debates. Some people think that cheongsam is more famous in the world as Chinese costume and is more convenient, and some people think that Hanfu can better reflect China's cultural heritage. What do you think?
从21世纪开始，一些中国年轻人开始研究、穿着汉服，想要为汉服正名。他们有的翻阅古籍，为我们重现汉服的历史原貌，有的大胆创新，设计出更符合现代生活需要的汉元素时装。
Since the beginning of this century, many Chinese young people have begun to study and wear Hanfu, and want to revive Hanfu. Some read the ancient books, reproduce the historical appearance of Hanfu, and some boldly changed the old form of Hanfu, and designed it into a new dress that better meets the needs of modern aesthetics and life while keeping the Chinese element.
如今，我们能看到越来越多的中国女孩儿在婚礼上，节日时，旅途中，日常生活里穿上汉服，或是这些充满古代中国风味的时装。
Nowadays, we can see more and more Chinese girls wearing Hanfu or these new fashions in their wedding, in Chinese festivals, and in their daily life.
